Carol Gardner and Valerie Plame Wilson:
Everything was absolutely great!
K. Rowland, St. Louis Business Journal Women’s Conference

Valerie Plame Wilson is the former CIA covert operations officer who in 2003 found herself at the heart of a political firestorm when senior White House and State Department officials revealed her secret status to several national journalists--including a syndicated conservative newspaper columnist who published her name.

A subsequent Justice Department investigation exposed what some dub an act of treason: that the "outing" was coordinated with the involvement of President Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff (Karl Rove), Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff (I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby) and the Deputy Secretary of State (Richard Armitage). Libby was indicted on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to federal investigators, and in March 2007 was found guilty on four of the five counts against him. The Wilson's also have filed a civil suit seeking damages against officials involved in the leaking of her name. Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House

I was the co chair of the Girl Scouts Juliete Low Leadership Society Luncheon In February.

Geraldine Ferraro has counseled clients on a wide range of public policy issues not only giving strategic advice but also providing lobbying support when needed. She has handled matters before agencies of the United Nations, the U.S. Government, the Congress, and the Conference of Mayors as well as certain state and local entities. Her extensive work with the NGO community over her years in public service allows her the access necessary to build strategic alliances on behalf of her clients.

Ms. Ferraro earned a place in history as the first woman vice-presidential candidate on a national party ticket. She was first elected to Congress from New York’s Ninth Congressional District in Queens in 1978 and served three terms in the House of Representatives. Her committee assignments in Congress included the Public Works Committee, Post Office and Civil Service Committee, and Budget Committee. Ms. Ferraro also served on the Select Committee on Aging.

Ellen Goodman is one of the most influential journalists in the US. Her Pulitzer Prize-winning column appears in over 400 newspapers, making her the second most widely read columnist in the country. A gifted writer who senses emerging shifts in our public and private lives, Goodman specializes in illuminating the cultural debates that become national obsessions.

What do we make of a world in which some folks hide women under chadors while others post XXX nude photos of women on the Internet? Do we really want to be putting human eggs up for sale or holding DNA accountable for a person’s success or failure? What does it mean that our political discussions so often take the form of food fights and sound bites?

These and other questions are Ellen Goodman’s beat. A truly innovative force in American journalism, she is widely acclaimed as a voice of sanity, and readers depend on her to help them make sense of their changing lives and relationships. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Commentary, Goodman has won many other awards, including the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award, the Hubert H. Humphrey Civil Rights Award from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and the President’s Award from the National Women’s Political Caucus. She has authored seven books; her most recent is PAPER TRAIL: Common Sense in Uncommon Times.

Topic: The XX Factor: Women as Leaders.

After a generation of change, women are stalled just below the glass ceiling, just outside the White House, just beyond the CEO office. We're half the medical students and only three percent of the heads of Fortune 500 corporations. We're half the law students and only 16 percent of Congress. We're doing the balancing act of work and family and bumping our heads against the llimits. It's time to talk again about women and leadership. What can we can bring to the table beyond the coffee? Let's talk about women's values as well as women's rights. What have we learned in this presidential campaign year about the old barriers and the new energy for change.
